Do these people not know who Siouxsie Sioux is or where she came from? Yes, Goth has grown and twisted into this huge intricate tapestry involving music, fashion, tropes from horror and romantic fiction, a sometimes a fondness for quaint or obscure historical mannerisms, and a gazillion other things. But the very roots of modern Goth? Are in punk rock. I thought that it was in quotation marks because the attitude in the quote was the problem, not the fact that goth is rooted in punk? I think the submitter was complaining about people who know nothing about the history of the subculture.  Ah-ha! That is probably exactly what is going on, not someone trolling that tumblr. But still, I am appalled that anyone would say that. Good grief, I’m solidly in the Victorian-Gothic camp (tea and top hats for everyone!), but I still would be shocked if someone made that complaint to me.
