I used to pick names for stuffed animals from The Gashleycrumb Tinies. Yes, I have a bear named Basil, and one named Xerxes.

Happy birthday to Edward Gorey!
Happy birthday, Edward Gorey! Although the brilliant reclusive Mr. Gorey passed away more than a decade ago, we will still go on celebrating his birth. From everyone’s favorite Ghashlycrumb Tinies and The Doubtful Guest, to the risque classics like The Curious Sofa and the cautionary tome The Recently Deflowered Girl, Gorey’s books stand the test of time. Thanks for keeping it funny and a little bit weird all those years, sir!

Dear misanthropicrats and spookybat: You asked what this book was and who it was by. These images are from The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go have a little lie-down, because the notion that there are spooky-types who don’t have that bit of knowledge hard-wired into their brains makes me feel a little faint. ;-)
(Seriously tho’: if you are even faintly of a goth inclination, do yourself a favor and go read everything you can by Edward Gorey. You won’t be sorry.)

This is so awesome.
“This was brilliant. A whole group of people dressed as an Edward Gorey book.” (Ghastlycrumb Tinies)

I adore this Gashleycrumb Tinies necklace, but I know the colors don’t go with my wardrobe. If only it were in b&w!

This photo reminds me, I should dig out my Edward Gorey bats and find a better display space for them.
