Happy birthday to the man who made me who I am today. I love you, Dad!
Also, today would have been Mom & Dad’s 44th wedding anniversary. We love you, Mom.

The remembrance altar I have set for the next few days. Flowers I saved from the ones people sent last year, a antique compact from my grandma, the key to the Haunted Mansion (my Mom’s favorite place on earth), bobbins from Mom’s sewing machine, photos of Mom and Grandma, and one of all three of us from my wedding.

You grieve. Then you continue with your life. And at times the fact of her absence will hit you like a blow to the chest, and you will weep. But this will happen less and less as time goes on.

It’s been a year. I miss you, Mom.

Self, perhaps listening to “For Good” from Wicked was not a smart idea. What with your generally fragile emotional state nowadays.

I had already coveted this planchette ring. But after the last few days, even more so. My Mom would have laughed at idea of it.

Thank you

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and sympathy.

My Dad and I are … well, we’re coping as best we can. Which means we’re getting on with doing what needs to be done, and occasionally staring off into space or getting teary-eyed. I am trying to settle back into the routine of my usual life (dayjob, writing, and so on), because that’s going to be what helps me the most right now. But I apologize in advance for being more scattered than usual.

My Mom passed away at 9:29PM, on January 20, 2011. My Dad was holding her hand and telling her that we loved her. Thank you all for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

Mom update

She’s still in ICU, and will be for a while. Dad visits her every day, I go visit every other day or so. I DO believe she will recover, it’s just going to take a lot of time. My family appreciates the wishes and prayers you’ve all been sending. Thank you very much.

Daily Mom update

Still on the ventilator, still in ICU. But her doctor says she IS making progress every day, and Dad says that she squeezed his fingers when he asked her to, so she’s starting to become a little more lucid. I’m going to keep praying and wishing.

Today’s Mom update

She’s been taken off the big ventilator (yay!), but still in ICU. I’m heading out to visit her in a few minutes. Thank you, everyone, for keeping us in your thoughts.

More Mom update

She’s still stable, but not really lucid. I saw her today, held her hand, and told her that everyone was sending her their prayers and good wishes.
