Oh! The gothy nostalgia! I used to have this exact coffin purse. (I think it went off to live with Aine, because I finally accepted it was a smidge too small for everything I carried.)

Wayback Machine time! Yes, I had enormous hair. And hey, proof I’ve had the purse I’m currently using since 1992-ish.
(Also, I want to go back in time, hug my younger self and gently tell her to eat a little more regularly, and that GOOD G-D no she’s not overweight, no matter what dumb boys she was dating said. Grrrr.)

Set the Wayback Machine, peeps: Ceremony at Re-Bar is amazingly like the OLD old Vogue, back when it was down on 1st. Same sort of crowd and music. Wheee!

Once upon a time (meaning the late 80s), I had this exact pair of shoes. Yes, I’m always looking for another pair. If any of you find them in a 7.5, TELL YOUR AUNTIE JILLI.

For Gothic Charmschool.

Ha! Which, for me, is either Inglot 175, or the original formula of Chanel Vamp Hydrabase.
Somewhere in my my collection of pages torn from fashion magazines (it’s what we did for inspiration before the Internet, peeps), I have the original Chanel ad from when they introduced Vamp lipstick. IIRC, I was paging through an issue of Vogue while sitting at my desk at WotC; I stopped at the Chanel ad, then stood up and announced to the rest of customer service that SOMEONE was going to take me to the mall during lunch, because I needed to go to the Chanel counter and purchase this lipstick. (Yes, someone did. The nice cosmetics lady told me I was the first person to purchase it at that location. )

blkstiletto said: Jillian, ever feel like us ElderGoth folk have small fortunes in our closets or lurking in storage trunks? ;-)

YES. But I am never, ever giving up my (battered, faded) Cure shirt OR my Bauhaus shirt from the Resurrection tour. (Besides, the Bauhaus shirt has bleach and hair dye stains.)

What? WHAT? $50 dollars for a Vampire: the Masquerade t-shirt?! Paging StuntHusband and fanboy-news-network, I think the Wayback Machine is broken.

Set the Wayback Machine, peeps!

Stretch velvet dresses GALORE. And the thing about the Jumping Joy brand of those dresses is that they were made with the best quality crushed stretch velvet I’ve ever found.

But when did stretch velvet become associated with grunge? Is it purely a “they both existed in the 90s” thing? Because I lived through it, and I can assure you that not a lot of girls in the grunge scene wore stretch velvet dresses.

Huh, I’d never seen a brown one

Oh Jay Jacobs. I still kind of miss you

The turtleneck version of the black stretch velvet dress

Black and olive green striped stretch velvet! I can think of at least two different people this would look fantastic on.

Good lord, I used to have this exact dress. I wore it over a longer black full skirt, with a tangle of long necklaces, black lipstick, and HUGE hair.

Another dress just like one I used to own. Again, worn with black-red lipstick and HUGE hair. I seem to remember receiving many free drinks when I would wear it out to Ye Olde Goth Club …

Set the Wayback Machine, peeps! This is the cover to a charming photocopied minicomic by Lisa O. I bought it in … 1995? (I even have a sticker for it on the black lunchpail I used to use as a purse.) I have searched and searched, but there seems to be no trace of Lisa O. and her gothy creation anywhere online. Anyway, here, a little bit of gothy history.

More from the Wayback Machine and the tragic LARPing past: the Camarilla prom, 199…4, I think? One of the highlights of that evening was when my very recent ex-boyfriend turned up (talk about bad, drama-laden breakups, OH MY), and the StuntHusband (who was the DJ) promptly played “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me” by The Smiths. I sat down on the floor laughing hysterically, and the ex-boyfriend stalked out in a huff.
