We sat down to supper. She feigned hospitality well as might be expected of someone who had practiced at it for hundreds of years. My part as well was played with skill.
I slipped the wood between her ribs as I had done over and over again in my mind. Then left her there to rot.
The old house still stands and for all I know she remains at the table.
