Guys, if you haven’t already read about how much it costs to run the AO3, please do, and then please donate.
Ultimately, the archive can only survive if we want it enough to pay for it with our donations. That’s the flip side of having a service that isn’t dependent on making advertisers or venture capitalists or even grant-funders happy, that isn’t going to mine and sell your personal data, and that isn’t going to charge you up front to use it.
If you love the archive, please support it!

REBLOG IF YOU ARE THE PROUD OWNER OF SOMETHING INCREDIBLY NERDY THAT ONLY PEOPLE IN YOUR RESPECTIVE FANDOM WOULD UNDERSTAND YOUR NEED OF OWNING IT.

Oh my darlings. You have no IDEA. Well, actually, some of you probably do, because I’m pretty open about my fandom silliness. But still.

And now, sitting in the back of the very big room for the Misha Collins panel.

Once again, I am gleefully thankful for Ao3’s “download as ePub” option. Yes, give me new fic to read on my phone, thank you!

For the Gothic Heroine: Is there a Dracula fandom?

tobiornottobithatisthequestion:

I mean the original story by Bram Stoker. Because it’s Bram Stoker’s birthday today and it reminded me of all my feels for this book.

Because like,

Poor Johnathan

and Mina is a boss

and Helsing is Dr. Boss

and Quincey Morris is such a badass

etc., etc.

YES, THERE NEEDS TO BE A DRACULA FANDOM. </allcaps of fannish glee>

I will point out that in the annual Yuletide fic exchange, Dracula usually is one of the available fandoms, so there’s some good fic out there.

I spent the past two days mingling with fannish peeps at the Sherlock Seattle con, and it was a lot of fun. While *I* still claim that I am fandom-adjacent for Sherlock, minim and the Infamous BlueJay beg to differ. While snickering.

The various cosplays were delightful, the panels were great, and watching media of fannish glee with other enthusiastic folks is always a joy. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for a wonderful time!

Small Calibrations: Sherlock Seattle Con 2012

We had spun tall tales and half-truths to our loved ones and others to explain our need to migrate to the West. Once reunited with our people we spoke in the mother tongue and used flailing hand gestures to communicate. We used our true names and…

I had a LOVELY time at the Sherlock con! Thank you to everyone who put time and effort into creating it!

Day two of the Sherlock convention. Settling in for the big-screen viewing of Reichenbach. I am prepared with tissues and handkerchiefs.

Probably if you’re reading this, you’ve at least heard of the AO3 — read stories on it, maybe posted — but you may not realize that it’s 100% donor-supported, that we are and always will be ad-free (except for our donation drive banner ;), and that we’re never going to try to find some way to make a profit off the content.
The AO3 is funded by the OTW, the Organization for Transformative Works, which makes possible the archive and a ton of other projects that also would be too big for any one fan to accomplish alone — including Fanlore, Transformative Works And Cultures, Open Doors and the Fannish Culture Preservation Project, and our legal advocacy.
So if you use or value these — please support if you can! $10 is all you need to donate to become a member and show your support, and there is shiny shiny swag at higher levels. :D
Speaking of which, CHECK OUT THE AWESOME SWAG! Kudos water bottle! *makes grabby hands*
(PS: You do still have to wait in the AO3 queue for an invite though — sorry! For privacy reasons we keep all financial/RL information completely separate from our services.)

screaming-towards-apotheosis said: Yay for Toasterverse! :D Didn’t realixze you’re in Avengers fandom as well.. dare I ask who do you ship? :P

At this point, I think it’s safe to say I ship EVERYONE. I started out shipping Tony/Steve, and Clint/Natasha, but thanks to Certain People (::coughcoughInfamousBlueJaycoughcough::) and writers like scifigrl47, I kinda ship everyone now.

I find being in the Avengers fandom particularly hilarious as I never read Marvel comics. Hell, I barely read DC comics, for that matter (except Sandman). But the movies are such delights, and there are such good writers in the fandom!

Welcome, Sherlockians! The Sherlock Seattle Convention website is now available!
http://www.sherlock-seattle.org
The Sherlock Seattle Convention is a celebration of all things Sherlock and as such will be featuring many interesting and informative panels, fun and entertaining events, as well as a screening of all three episodes of BBC’s Sherlock - Season 2!
Check out the website to pre-register for the convention (hint, hint, everyone who wants to come to the convention needs to pre-register - there will be no at-the-door registrations) and discover of what kinds of panels, guests and special events you can expect to find there!
We look forward to meeting you in person! Cheers!

Why yes, I’m going to this, with two of my best friends/fandom lunatics. It’s going to be FUN. (Even if I’m the StuntWatson to one of them, and the StuntLestrad to the other.)

Listen closely: you can hear the RealHusband and the StuntHusband chortling with glee at the idea of this.

“I am Rygel the XVI, Dominar to over 600 billion subjects. I don’t need to speak to you!”

And still a much, much better king than Joffrey.

AU: Sherlock and John meet James Bond at Buckingham Palace at the Opening Ceremonies for the 2012 Olympic Games

“Oh, here’s trouble,” Bond says as he comes striding into the reception room.

“I’m perfectly happy to leave,” Sherlock says. “In fact, I’d have been perfectly happy not to come at all.”

“Not you, sonny,” Bond says, his scowl turning to a crooked smirk as he walks straight past Sherlock. “John Watson, you bloody devil. Who let you in here?”

Dear fandom, I love you. LOVE.

One: yes, these are things a lot of my friends (on tumblr or not) say, and yes, I’ve said some of them, too.

Two: I want her hair color. With black tips and bangs. But yes, that’s the color I want. (If you listen closely, you can hear the RealHusband muttering, “Oh good G-d, put the hair chemicals down.”)
