Look, I’m not going to fib: if this necklace were still in stock at ReStyle, I’d probably buy it. It’s so gloriously over-the-top!

Am I the only one who thinks a somewhat decent get up with skulls or bat accessory is extremely cheesy? Not in the slightest! But I like cheesy
as you can probably tell from my two most recent Polyvore setsso my opinion is invalid.
It depends on the skull or bat accessory! ::Looks down at giant vintage Alchemy Gothic necklace laying on my cravat:: But then, since I have gleefully crashed through the cliche barrier and camped out somewhere on the other side of it, my opinion is possibly suspect.
(Also, I have a large black lace bat applique on the back of the blazer I’m wearing today. BECAUSE I CAN.)

Wait, since when was ‘cartoonish’ a bad thing? I’d love to live a cartoonish life! My room would be all red and purple with wrought-iron fixtures and I could actually light all of my candles, there’d be a spooky bookstore in town with lots of books on mythology from around the world and a goth-themed teahouse that hosts regular poetry slams, and I could have all kinds of fabulous and illogical clothing that would never wear out or fade or get ripped or stained (and if it did, I’d have a closet full of identical items just in case).
That said, there really isn’t a ‘goth lifestyle’. Sure, some people (like the Lady of the Manners) may seem to incorporate a Halloween vibe into their every waking moment, but most people don’t really spend all their time listening to Bauhaus in graveyards or painting blood splatters onto their fingernails in a pink-and-black themed room full of incense and Monster High dolls. Everybody has to do basic human things (cooking, cleaning, and working included), and not everybody wants to make those basic human things spooky all the time. It’s up to you how you incorporate your goth side into your everyday life - or if you do at all.
Dear marypsue, thank you for writing this reply to the GothConfessions post, because you are absolutely correct. And for the record, I (and my other ElderGoth friends) don’t expect ANYONE to be uber-gothy at all times, least of all ourselves. Do the things that make you happy, folks, not because you feel you have to mark them off an Official Goth Checklist.
